Dalisay Lodge No. 14

Privacy is a fundamental human right, essential to autonomy and the protection of human dignity. It’s one of our values and we’re committed to privacy. The right to privacy is articulated in all the major international and regional human rights instruments, including;

United Nations Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) 1948, article 12: “No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home, or correspondence, not to attacks upon his honor and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks”.

International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) 1966, article 17: “1. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary or unlawful interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to unlawful attacks on his honour or reputation. 2. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.”.

ASEAN Human Rights Declaration, article 21: “Every person has the right to be free from arbitrary interference with his or her privacy, family, home or correspondence including personal data, or to attacks upon that person’s honour and reputation. Every person has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.”.

Philippine Republic Act 10173 – Data Privacy Act of 2012, chapter 1, section 2, declaration of policy: “It is the policy of the State to protect the fundamental human right of privacy, of communication while ensuring free flow of information to promote innovation and growth. The State recognizes the vital role of information and communications technology in nation-building and its inherent obligation to ensure that personal information in information and communications systems in the government and in the private sector are secured and protected.”.
